Allen Mott, of counsel to Cowie Law Group, was appointed 2019 president of the Chesapeake Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (CAI). Mr. Mott provides legal services to condominiums as of counsel to Cowie Law Group, P.C. The Chesapeake Chapter CAI is an organization that promotes the interests of condominium association and homeowners association communities in Maryland, the Eastern Shore, and the Delaware and Maryland beaches. The Community Associations Institute seeks to create harmonious communities and responsible leadership by providing educational programs, resources, publications and networking events to the volunteers who govern communities and the service providers and professionals who support them. CAI is a national membership organization with 35,000+ members including community association volunteer leaders (homeowners), professional community managers, property management firms, law firms and other service providers and professionals who provide products and services to community associations.
Cowie Law Group, P.C. has been an active member of the Community Associations Institute for over 20 years and is a member of both the Washington Metro and Chesapeake Region chapters. Partners Nicholas D. Cowie and Stanford L. Kimmel have given presentations to Community Associations Institute members on various topics affecting condominium and homeowners associations. Nicholas Cowie has drafted and supported legislation that protects the rights condominiums, HOA’s and their members and has worked with the Community Associations Institute legislative action committee to promote these and other laws benefiting community associations. Nicholas D.Cowie is the instructor of the CAI course entitled “Successful Strategies for Resolving Construction Defect Disputes with Developers” and gives presentations on “Developer Transition” for transitioning homeowner board members who take control of an association from the developer.
